How the calculator works

Compare energy cost per mile, not just pump prices.

The calculator estimates how much gasoline your current vehicle would use and how much electricity an EV would consume for the same annual mileage.

01

Enter your mileage

Annual driving has a large effect on potential savings because the comparison scales with miles driven.

02

Use realistic energy rates

Home electricity and public fast charging can have very different prices. The tool blends the two using your charging mix.

03

Check break-even

If the EV costs more upfront, the calculator estimates how long annual operating savings could take to recover that difference.

Method: Gas cost = annual miles ÷ MPG × gas price. EV energy use = annual miles × kWh per 100 miles ÷ 100. Charging cost uses a blended electricity rate based on home and public charging. Break-even uses annual energy savings plus the maintenance-savings estimate. Results are planning estimates, not guarantees.

Common questions

EV savings calculator questions.

Does the calculator include EV tax credits?+
No. Incentives vary by vehicle, location, eligibility, and time. Enter the net extra upfront cost you want to compare after considering any incentive you expect to receive.
Why include public charging separately?+
Public charging, especially DC fast charging, can cost more than home charging. Separating the two produces a more realistic blended charging rate.
Does this include maintenance savings?+
Yes, but only as an estimate you enter yourself. Maintenance costs vary significantly by vehicle and use.
Does it include insurance and depreciation?+
No. Insurance, depreciation, financing, taxes, registration, and resale value are not automatically included.
